Mountie parked near Revelstoke witnesses double-fatal crash

REVELSTOKE, B.C. — RCMP say a Mountie observing traffic near Revelstoke Sunday (July 5) witnessed a crash that killed two people.

In a news release, RCMP say the Mountie was parked off the Trans Canada Highway about 15 kilometres east of Revelstoke when the crash took place.

A westbound Honda Accord lost control coming out of a curve and swerved across the centre line, hitting an oncoming tractor-trailer head on.

The nearby officer responded immediately and called for more first responders.

The man driving the car and his passenger were both pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi was not physically injured, and RCMP say he provided dashcam footage to help police with their investigation.

RCMP say weather and road conditions were excellent at the time and investigators are still trying to determine what caused the driver of the car to lose control.
