KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP are looking to speak with a woman who may have witnessed a man use his dog as a weapon.

According to a news release from Cpl. Jodi Shelkie, the incident happened on June 28 at around 5:00 p.m. on Tranquille Road.

Shelkie says the man’s German shepherd repeatedly wandered into traffic, causing the man to grab the dog and forcefully push the dog onto the sidewalk.

A female passerby told the man to stop, but he replied he would have his dog attack her.

When a man told the dog owner to leave the woman alone, it’s alleged the dog owner pushed the man against a wall and, according to the release, “had his dog bite him.”

Another man tried to intervene as well, and the dog owner directed the shepherd to bite him as well.

Responding Mounties arrested the man and have forwarded a report to the B.C. Prosecution Service for potential charge approval. The dog was seized by City of Kamloops bylaw officers.

Both intervening men sought treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

RCMP want to talk to the woman who was part of the initial interaction with the man. She is described as short with blonde hair. At the time, she had been walking southbound on Tranquille Road near Northills Mall.
