Lady Gaga’s Maskology

Lady Gaga posted a selfie of herself in a Chromatica-themed spiked mask on Friday on her Instagram. “Be yourself, but wear a mask! I believe in being kind to yourself, the community, and the planet. I challenge my awesome friends to show off their mask game! @barackobama @michelleobama @oprah @arianagrande @itstonybennett #KindlyMask cc: @momgerm,” she captioned the post.

Tony Bennett, 93, quickly completed the challenge, posting a selfie wearing a large white mask. “We #kindlymask for all our loved ones, both at home and all around the world. We encourage you to share why you wear a mask,” he wrote with the photo.

In May, Gaga promoted the release of her latest album by donning a pink mask matching the project’s aesthetic, embroidered with pointy spikes. Chromatica went on to become the biggest album of 2020 for a female artist so far.

The CDC says wearing face masks can help prevent people who have COVID-19 from spreading the virus to others, and recommends anyone over the age of two wear them in public settings or around those who do not live in one’s household.
