KAMLOOPS — Some serious accidents in our area this weekend.

Two air ambulances were used to airlift victims of what is believed to have been a two-vehicle accident on the Mamette Lake Road between Merritt and Ashcroft yesterday afternoon. No details have been made available, but helicopters were able to land in a rancher’s field and alongside the roadway to attend to those injured. No word on the seriousness of the injuries or the cause of the accident. The highway was closed for several hours while medics did their work, and police did their forensic investigation. It was reopened last evening.

One person died after a serious collision on the Duffey Lake Road 9 kilometers north of Joffre Lake late yesterday morning. Four motorcyclists were northbound on Highway 99 when three of the bikes collided with a southbound vehicle. The accident happened just after 11:30 AM. Witnesses to the collision, including an off duty doctor and paramedics provided immediate first aid, but one person was declared dead at the scene. Four others were taken to hospital with minor injuries, but a fifth victim was airlifted to hospital in the Lower Mainland with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The accident closed the highway until late last night.

And an accident on Highway 97 near the Duck Range Road yesterday afternoon sent one person to hospital in critical condition. No details on that accident yet either.
