Suspect in custody after Valleyview police incident, but not before RCMP cruiser rammed

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP say a wanted individual is in custody, but not before ramming a police vehicle in Valleyview Friday afternoon.

According to Sgt. Jeff Bingley, officers tracked down the 36-year-old man parked at a Valleyview business at about 1:40 p.m.

Bingley says the Kamloops man is well-known to police, has multiple outstanding warrants and “has caused police pursuits in the past.”

As officers converged on the man’s vehicle this afternoon and tried to box him in, he accelerated, ramming into a police vehicle before driving over a spike belt.

The man eventually left the vehicle, but officers took him into custody with the help of the public and an RCMP service dog.

“Police have been hunting this individual down to arrest him for too long and it’s great to have him off the streets,” Bingley said in a news release.

The man will be held on his outstanding warrants and new charges from today’s incident.
