Recent rain leads to Evacuation Alert in Salmon Arm

KAMLOOPS – A single-family home in Salmon Arm is the subject of a Columbia Shuswap Regional District Evacuation Alert. The Alert was put in place Tuesday (June 30) following higher-than-normal amounts of rainfall in recent weeks.

Officials are concerned with land slippage and bank erosion at the Ravenscroft Strata. The affected home is located at 4425-13 Street NE. No other properties in the strata are affected.

A preliminary landslide hazard assessment report was developed by a geotechnical engineering firm. This report recommended an evacuation alert for the home. No other properties in the Ravenscroft Strata are affected.

Under the alert, residents of the home must be prepared to leave on short notice from emergency officials.

The public is asked to avoid the area. Emergency officials will continue to monitor the situation. The Evacuation Alert will remain in place until further notice.
