Well-known Kamloops community worker Paul Lagace dead at 66

KAMLOOPS — A Kamloops man who was a tireless advocate for immigrants and veterans has died.

Paul Lagace died Sunday (June 28) after a six-year battle with cancer.

Friend Chris Buchner confirmed Lagace’s passing in a social media post, and Kamloops Immigrant Services also confirmed his passing to CFJC Today.

Lagace was well-known in Kamloops as the longtime executive director of Kamloops Immigrant Services.

He worked to help integrate new Canadians into the Kamloops community, including many Syrian refugees earlier this decade.

Lagace spent 21 years in the Canadian Forces, including UN peacekeeping deployments in Canada, Europe and the Middle East.

In recent years, Lagace was a spokesman for the UN NATO Veterans, organizing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder awareness motorcycle rides from Kamloops to Lac La Hache.

Lagace was an avid motorcyclist. Buchner described him as “kind, just, curious and courageous.”

Paul Lagace was 66.
