KAMLOOPS — RCMP are looking for the public’s help solving a drive-by shooting on the Kamloops North Shore.

The incident happened Thursday night (June 25) at about 11:25. Kamloops RCMP members rushed to Chestnut Avenue after the report of a gunshot being heard.

Officers found a bullet hole in a vehicle that was parked on a home’s driveway. There was no one in the vehicle at the time, but RCMP say there was a family in the home at the time. No one was injured.

Surveillance video in the area shows the shot came from an occupant of a white SUV as it drove by. Investigators say it may have been a late 1990s Chevrolet Blazer with a black horizontal stripe along the side.

In a news release, Kamloops RCMP Plainclothes Commander Staff Sgt. Simon Pillay says the detachment’s officers respond to gun complaints on a regular basis.

“In this case, an errant bullet could easily have killed an innocent person in their home,” said Pillay. “This type of reckless firearm usage presents a major public safety risk and as such are treated as priority investigations.”

While a still image from the surveillance video (above) is not clear, Pillay hopes someone recognizes the vehicle and has more tips for investigators.

“Whoever fired that shot has demonstrated they don’t care if or who they may kill,” Pillay continued. “If you have information, please call us and help make our community safer.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
