Kamloops boat launches close – again

KAMLOOPS – Rising waters have led to a decision to close boat launches in Kamloops once again. The City says the launches at Pioneer Park, McArthur Island and Thompson Drive will be closed for the foreseeable future.

The launches were closed weeks ago when the Thompson river threatened to flood through the city. However, river levels fell and the boat launches were reopened last week.

“This has been an unusual freshet season that has been very challenging to predict” said Greg Wightman, the Utility Services Manager for the City of Kamloops. The City says the rivers are simply too dangerous to be on right now.

Recent rain events and the ongoing spring freshet have brought the Thompson river up to its highest level of the year according to the Environment Canada river monitoring station in Kamloops.
