KAMLOOPS — An Alberta company has been awarded the contract to build the $34.5 million addition to Valleyview Secondary School.

In a news release, the Kamloops-Thompson School District says the contract for the construction was awarded to Dawson Wallace Construction after a public tender process.

Dawson Wallace has offices in Edmonton, Calgary, Lethbridge and Surrey.

The project, announced by Education Minister Rob Fleming in April, 2019, is set to increase capacity at the crowded school from 675 students to 1,200.

Twenty new classrooms will be added, as well as a new gymnasium, multi-purpose areas and “innovative education” spaces.

Site preparation work is already underway, and District 73 Director of Facilities Art McDonald says construction will begin shortly. McDonald says the project is slated to be finished by September, 2022.
