KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops RCMP Victim Services Unit (VSU) is offering help for those still suffering from trauma after the tragic Snowbird crash in Brocklehurst last month.

On May 17, Capt. Jennifer Casey was killed and Capt. Richard MacDougall was injured when they ejected from a Snowbirds Tutor jet shortly after takeoff from Kamloops Airport. The jet crashed into a yard on Glenview Avenue, briefly setting a home on fire.

In a release to media, the VSU says though the tragic crash took place more than one month ago, “affected citizens may be experiencing strong emotional or physical reactions.” It says these “emotional aftershocks” are common following a traumatic event.

Those still traumatized by the events of May 17 can call the Interior Crisis Line Network at 1 (888) 353-2273. Those who staff the crisis line are equipped to provide emotional support and other resources for those in need.

The VSU says a call to the crisis line “can be life-changing as well as life-saving” for those who make the call.
