KAMLOOPS — A plan that could shape a large portion of the growth within the City of Kamloops will go to public hearing.

Kamloops council has approved the next for a proposal to begin building the so-called Edinburgh neighbourhood of Aberdeen – south of the existing residential area.

While the initial proposal is to develop 22 residential properties, Development Director Marvin Kwiatkowski says the 20-year window includes thousands of residential units, a commercial hub and an elementary school.

“The southwest sector is looking to absorb 43 per cent of the city’s population growth. Approximately 2,550 units are projected for the southwest area. In particular, for the Edinburgh area, you’re looking at about 1,600 units. It’s a fairly large area, and substantial development for the next, say, 20 years.”
