Close call along Cariboo Place sends van over steep embankment

Jun 22, 2020 | 1:44 PM

KAMLOOPS – Emergency crews were called to the scene of a collision that sent a vehicle over the bank of Cariboo Place, just off Hillside Drive.

RCMP say a driver of a red van collided with an unoccupied vehicle, parked along the road. The collision sent the van down the hillside.

Kamloops Fire Rescue used a winch to prevent the van from sliding any further down the hill so personnel could provide assistance to the 60 year-old driver.

A roadside sobriety test was conducted on the driver. As a result, the driver was issued a roadside 24 hour prohibition. In addition, charges are being considered.

“We are thankful nobody was seriously hurt in this incident” stated S/Sgt Mat. VAN LAER from the Kamloops RCMP. “It really was a good response from all emergency personnel in this case, with Kamloops Fire and BC Ambulance Services all assisting in keeping everyone and everything safe”.

The crash occurred around 1:00 pm Monday afternoon.
