City of Kamloops reopens boat launches ahead of Father’s Day weekend

Jun 19, 2020 | 8:49 AM

KAMLOOPS — As river levels recede, the City of Kamloops is reopening its boat launches Friday (June 19).

The boat launches at Thompson Drive, Pioneer Park and McArthur Island were closed on May 28 as the Thompson River reached dangerously high levels.

Since last weekend, which was rainy, the levels have stabilized and have slowly begun to drop.

Even with the boat launches back open, the City asks boaters to exercise extreme caution and to travel at lower speeds in order to prevent large wakes and the resulting erosion.

Residents are advised to be cautious near the river as well, as banks that were soaked could be unstable.
