KAMLOOPS — RCMP say a pedestrian struck and killed by a car in Kamloops Monday night (June 15) had been walking in the middle of the highway.

At about 10:00 p.m. Monday, a vehicle hit a woman while travelling on Highway 5A between Hugh Allan Drive and Rogers Way.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the woman was wearing black clothing and was walking in the travel lanes of the road. Road lighting is limited in the area.

Shelkie says the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver remained on scene and co-operated with police.

“The driver didn’t see her in the highway,” said Shelkie. “Other people had mentioned that they saw her in the highway but this driver, unfortunately, didn’t see her in time.”

The victim has been identified as a 44-year-old woman from Lake Country.

Shelkie says the driver will not be ticketed or charged.
