In addition, all passengers will be required to wear a mask. If they don’t have one, Ebus has some available for purchase.

“Drivers and our staff will be wearing masks while engaging with the customers,” Desjardine said. “Drivers won’t be mandatory to wear them while they’re driving, but again they’re socially distanced and they have a plexiglass shield to protect them. Passengers will have to wear masks while they’re on board the coach.”

The buses have been thoroughly cleaned and those preparing to travel were feeling comfortable with the safety measures.

“I feel like it will be okay,” said one passenger. “It seems cleaner than a transit bus in the city, so I feel pretty comfortable.”

Karan Gill and his friend were especially relieved to be able to take the bus.

They were moving to Surrey, a plan that was pushed back by the suspension of Ebus services.

“We’ve been planning to move to Surrey for about a month now,” Gill said. “We paid the month there, too, we had a booking there. So we paid the rent there and we were paying the rent here, too, so it’s been really tough for me. For my friend, too.”

Gill, who doesn’t own a car, says paying for rent in two places has been a financial challenge.

“As students, we already have our school debt, tuition fees are so much, paying rent at two places is really tough.”

As much as passengers are happy to see a travel option return, Ebus is excited to welcome them back.

“It’s just a very enjoyable, satisfying experience to get back to doing what we do best,” Desjardine said.
