KAMLOOPS — UPDATE #2: B.C. Hydro says the outage has been restored.

UPDATE: Kamloops RCMP say a power outage in the Campbell Creek area Wednesday morning was caused by a lost semi-truck driver.

It happened at about 8:00 a.m. According to Cpl. Jodi Shelkie, the driver became lost on Shuswap Road before realizing he could get back to the Trans Canada Highway by taking the Lafarge Bridge.

Proceeding over the bridge, Shelkie says the truck took out three B.C. Hydro poles near the nearby Fountain Tire.

“Employees at the Fountain Tire did get a description of the semi, which they passed on to our officers who arrived on scene,” said Shelkie. “Our officers then gave that information to [Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement officers], who were able to stop the semi a little distance away and advise him of what he had done.”

Shelkie notes Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement officers will determine if the incident warrants tickets.

B.C. Hydro crews are on scene repairing their lines and poles. Their website reports the estimated time for restoration of power is 3:00 p.m.
