New RCMP detachment commander in Merritt

MERRITT, B.C. — There is turnover at the top of the Merritt RCMP detachment.

Insp. Lorne Wood, who took over the detachment in early 2018, has been commissioned and transferred to Prince George, where he takes over as the head of the RCMP North District’s Major Crime Unit.

Wood was formerly head of the Major Crime Unit for the Kamloops detachment.

His successor in Merritt will be Staff Sgt. Maj. Stephan Drouin.

According to RCMP Southeast District spokesman Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, Drouin is a veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy who served in theatres around the world before joining the Mounties.

Drouin is not unfamiliar with the region, having previously served in Lytton. His career also includes at several other B.C. detachments, RCMP depot in Regina, and his most recent posting was the Staff Sergeant Major for E-Division in North District.

Drouin will begin as Detachment Commander in Merritt during the first week of June.

Sgt. Josh Roda has taken over as the operations officer in Merritt and is serving as acting detachment commander until Drouin arrives.
