KAMLOOPS — The CEO of Tourism Kamloops says revenue in the local tourism sector is down nearly 90 per cent — so a provincial grant comes just in time.
Tourism Kamloops is one of 59 B.C. organizations that will split $10 million meant to help the industry recover.
In a news release, Beverly DeSantis says 2019 was a year of growth for the local sector, and the first quarter of 2020 was strong, but travel restrictions imposed in the wake of COVID-19 ground business to a halt.
Board Chair Steve Earl says the local organization will use the funds to help Tourism Kamloops “retain [its] marketing team in preparation to welcome visitors back to our city as soon as it is safe to do so.”
