KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops-Thompson School District Board of Education will debate the hiring of 17 more custodians at next Monday’s (May 22) regular meeting.

In a report to the board, Secretary-Treasurer Kelvin Stretch says the district will need the extra cleaning staff in order to line up with new safety and cleanliness standards put in place by the province in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

After reviewing staffing levels, Stretch says it was concluded that 17 FTE positions will need to be added if the district “is to provide full day shift coverage at all medium to large elementary and small secondary schools.”
