KAMLOOPS — Despite a stellar rookie season with his hometown Blazers, Logan Stankoven lost out on the Western Hockey League’s rookie of the year award on Friday.

Stankoven’s 29 goals and 19 assists wasn’t enough to get the nod over Edmonton’s Dylan Guenther, the first-ever Oil King to earn the honour.

The 16-year-old Kamloops native tied for first in the WHL for rookie goal-scoring. The 29 tallies tied the team record for most goals in a season by a 16-year-old, tying Rob Brown, who scored 29 goals in the 1984-85 season.

Meanwhile, the 17-year-old Guenther, the first-overall selection at the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft, had 26 goals and 33 assists in 58 games.
