Mounties in 100 Mile House have busy weekend on nearby highways

100 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — RCMP in 100 Mile House had a busy weekend with danger on the nearby highways.

It began Friday evening (May 8) at about 7:30 when a speeding silver SUV side-swiped a small, grey Mazda car. The collision resulted in damage to the driver’s door and deployment of an airbag in the car.

The SUV continued into the 108 Mile community, driving recklessly into a residential area.

RCMP closed off the entrances into 108 Mile and conducted an extensive search of the community but couldn’t find the SUV or its driver.

Another incident followed this one early Saturday morning.

Just before 7:00 a.m., RCMP were informed of a man in the Lone Butte area making threats against officers. He was supposedly in medical distress at the time.

Police say the man was also breaching an order to stay away from a woman, and had taken her blue Dodge Journey.

Responding to the Sheridan Lake area, officers came across the vehicle as it turned from Lone Butte Horse Lake Road onto Highway 24.

Officers believed the man was a treat to the woman and to RCMP, so they using their police vehicle to disable the Journey.

The man took off on foot, but Mounties tackled him after a short run. Both the man and two RCMP members suffered minor injuries in the incident.

A 42-year-old man is facing charges including uttering threats and breach of conditions.
