Sam the Brocklehurst badger has died

KAMLOOPS — A sad end to an odd tale in Brocklehurst.

Yesterday, Cherie Bitz told CFJC Today about a badger that popped up in her garden.

Badgers are endangered in B.C., and experts from the B.C. Wildlife Park said it was likely hunting a smaller rodent when it burrowed its way into the Bitz yard.

Bitz’s daughter named the badger ‘Sam’, not knowing whether it was male or female.

B.C. Conservation officers were called and had planned to trap the animal in order to move it away from the city.

Today, Bitz has updated us that Sam was found dead deep in his hole this morning.

It’s not known how he died.
