KAMLOOPS — Starting next month, front door loading, and fare collection will continue with B.C Transit buses- including those in Kamloops.

In a release, BC Transit says on June 1, new enhanced safety measures will allow for passengers to load through the front doors, and pay their fares.

A temporary vinyl panel will be installed on all buses that don’t have a full driver door to allow for physical distancing between the driver, and rider.

With the change back to front door loading, and fare collection, existing safety measures that will remain in effect include:

  • Enhanced cleaning on buses and at BC Transit facilities.
  • Communication to staff and customers about physical distancing procedures.
  • Limiting passenger capacity to support physical distancing.
  • Enhancing the red line for passengers to stand behind.
  • Vinyl panels on light duty buses.

BC Transit adds that the new safety measures align with the directions from the Provincial Health Officer.

The transportation service will continue to be offered for those that need it, including essential workers, and those getting their weekly groceries.
