VICTORIA — The province has recorded 33 new cases of COVID-19.

The information is contained in a news release from the Ministry of Health and the Office of Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry. Henry did not hold a news conference Friday (May 1).

The 33 new cases bring the provincial total to 2,145.

This is the breakdown of where those cases are located:

  • 823 — Vancouver Coastal Health
  • 978 — Fraser Health
  • 121 — Island Health
  • 174 — Interior Health
  • 49 — Northern Health

Of the total cases, 1,357 people are now considered fully recovered, or 63 per cent of the total.

There has been one additional death due to COVID-19, raising the provincial death toll to 112.

Eighty-seven employees of two poultry plants in the Lower Mainland remain infected. That number has decreased due to the correction of a previous reporting error.

In addition, 133 at the Mission Institution in Abbotsford are positive for COVID-19, and 15 British Columbians connected with the Kearl Lake oilsands project in northern Alberta.

Only 79 people are hospitalized, the continuation of a downward trend. Twenty-four of those are in intensive or critical care.
