High water leads to State of Emergency declaration in Williams Lake
WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. – A seven-day State of Local Emergency has been declared in Williams Lake as widespread flooding is being reported across the B.C. Interior.
Under the declaration, 11 industrial properties on Frizzi Road and the River Valley Trail have been issued evacuation orders. In addition, access to the River Valley Trail has been closed until further notice.
The City says high stream flows, unstable slopes, road washouts and threats to infrastructure make the area unsafe. Flooding has also made two pedestrian and recreation bridges impassable.
In addition, evacuation alerts have been issued for 86 homes in Green Acres Mobile Home Park. Officials say the alert is necessary to give residents the time to prepare for an evacuation if it becomes necessary.
