KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP have one man in custody after a stand-off at a Valleyview motel Saturday evening.

In a release, Sgt. Brandon Buliziuk says yesterday (Apr. 18) just after 10 p.m, RCMP responded to a call for service on the city’s north shore.

The suspect on scene fled in a vehicle, and police began searching for him. Around 11:50 p.m, officers found the suspect at a motel in the Valleyview area, and converged on the motel – attempting to bring the matter to a peaceful resolution.

A risk assessment of the situation required that some of the people staying in the motel had to leave their rooms until the incident was resolved.

Buliziuk says the situation was very visible, and RCMP were using loudhailers for communicating with the suspect. After about an hour of this, the suspect surrendered and was brought into custody.

The suspect, a 36-year-old Kamloops man, remains in custody pending further investigation. RCMP will forward all information to the BC Prosecution Service to determine what/if charges will be laid.

RCMP add that to protect the integrity of the investigation, and the privacy of the people involved, no further information will be provided at this time.
