Fire that destroyed two homes in Cache Creek deemed suspicious

CACHE CREEK, B.C. — RCMP are looking into a fire in Cache Creek that destroyed a pair of homes.

According to a news release from Southeast District RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, Ashcroft RCMP were called to assist Cache Creek volunteer firefighters at about 4:41 a.m. on Wednesday (Apr. 15).

Firefighters were trying to put out a fire in the area of Stanley Park Drive and Stage Road, and Mounties closed Stage Road to traffic.

The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined, but O’Donaghey says RCMP believe it is suspicious.

No one was reported injured, but according to the organizer of a GoFundMe fundraiser for the owners of one home, a dog died in the fire.

The GoFundMe page is set up to benefit Ian and Anie, the owners of the popular Anie’s Pizza restaurant in Cache Creek.

The organizer says the pair got out of the home with only the clothes on their back.

RCMP have teamed up with the Cache Creek Volunteer Fire Department to investigate, and are asking anyone with information on the blaze to contact Ashcroft RCMP at (250) 453-2216.
