Series of fires along CN tracks

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Fire and Rescue crews worked with CN rail to douse a number of small grass fires along the tracks in Rayleigh overnight.
Fire Captain Sheldon Guertin says crews were grinding track in the area last night when sparks started the series of small spot fires at the edge of the tracks. Guertin says the fires were spread over about half a kilometer.
Fire crews got a handle on them very quickly, and Guertin says the CN crews kept an eye on the area overnight with their own water tenders to ensure there were no flareups.
He says things are starting to dry out as warmer weather starts to come in, and it’s a good reminder for everyone to keep an eye on things in the outdoors.
