KAMLOOPS — A Kamloops-based artist is using his passion to give back to the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Stace DeWolf, owner and artist behind Wolfman Originals, is raising money for the Kamloops Food Bank through sales of a new design inspired by frontline healthcare workers.

The piece, titled The Front Line, is available in a print form, download, clothing, and other merchandise sold through Wolfman Originals. DeWolf says proceeds from sales of the artwork goes directly to the local food bank.

“The piece just kind of came together. I have family that is in healthcare, and I thought that a good way to try to promote it and also create more food security would be by fundraising for the Kamloops Food Bank,” DeWolf says, “I know a lot of families are struggling and I just thought if there was a way I could help them, that’s what I was going to do.”

Another food-related fundraising avenue DeWolf is working on is through individual portrait sales, aptly titled ‘Portraits in a Pandemic’. After a customer sends in a photo of the person they’d like to have portrayed, DeWolf gets to work on creating their likeness in his own unique way. The artist is offering the commissioned 22″ x 28″ portraits for $80, with $20 from each put towards the Kamloops Food Bank.

It’s not clear exactly how long the pandemic will last, but DeWolf says he plans to donate the funds to the food bank on a weekly basis.

So far the community response to the portrait feature has been steady – DeWolf has already created five portraits, with another ten in the queue.

“To date, I think we’re at over $500 that we’ve raised for the Food Bank in about a week’s time,” notes DeWolf, “We’re going to make our first donation to the food bank on Monday- we’re just waiting for the other proceeds to come in through some of the online sales.”

On a regular basis, the food bank is in need of donations to continue providing the service it does, and DeWolf says the pandemic situation compounding that need inspired him to do his part to pitch in.
