Blazers’ goalie Garand named top scholastic athlete in WHL’s Western Conference

KAMLOOPS — In his first year as the Kamloops Blazers starting goaltender,17-year-old Dylan Garand has been awarded the Daryl K. (Doc) Seaman Memorial Trophy as the WHL Western Conference Scholastic Player of the Year.

Garand, who attends Valleyview Secondary, had a 96.5 per cent average at school, which was slightly better than his .921 save percentage this season.

According to a news release from the WHL, the Victoria, B.C. native maintained a 93 per cent average in his core Grade 12 course this year, which sets him up to graduate with honours.

Garand played in 42 games between the pipes for the Blazers in this abbreviated, posting a 28-10-2-1-1 record, and a 2.21 GAA in 2,443 minutes.
