Wildfire crews battling fires as Easter long weekend nears

KAMLOOPS – A four person crew from the BC Wildfire Service was called out to respond to a wildfire north of Cache Creek late Wednesday afternoon.

The fire was spotted burning adjacent to Highway 97, approximately 15 kilometres northwest of Cache Creek.

Officials say the wildfire was quickly brought under control, burning approximately 0.2 hectares and land.

Meantime the Chief Jules Way Wildfire just northeast of Chase continues to burn. However, BC Wildfire officials have categorized the fire as “being held”.

The fire is measured at five hectares following the determination of a more accurate track of the flames. The fire is not likely to spread beyond its existing boundaries.

The Wildfire Service says the fire is located in very steep terrain, which has made it difficult to battle. Firefighters have been able to hand guard both flanks of the fire. However, smoke is expected to be visible into the Easter long weekend.
