City parks to remain open as long as people keep their distance: mayor

KAMLOOPS — Even as the B.C. government moves to close provincial parks, City of Kamloops parks remain open, though the mayor of Kamloops says people will need to keep their social distance if they are to stay that way.

Ken Christian says there have been no conversations around closing city parks. He says during the pandemic, it’s important for people to get outside.

“Our park system will remain open, as long as people comply with the social-distancing rules,” said Christian. “If we find a circumstance where that’s not happening, we’ll have to take further action in terms of closing those facilities. But right now, I think the citizens are doing a pretty good job. We have some places where there’s only one entrance in and out of the park where it gets a little thick. But a place like Kenna Cartwright where you have many accesses to that park is a good opportunity for people to get some exercise and get some fresh air.”
