Sicamous RCMP investigating armed robbery at licenced medical marijuana grow operation

Apr 7, 2020 | 4:27 PM

SICAMOUS, B.C. — A massive police presence across the Shuswap and North Okanagan this morning (Apr. 7) was the result of an armed robbery.

In a pair of news releases, Southeast District RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says the district’s emergency response team (ERT) was assisting the Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP with a search of a rural area for two suspects “they believe to be related to a crime committed earlier this morning in a neighbouring jurisdiction.”

O’Donaghey explains the investigation and heavy police presence stems from an early morning armed robbery of a licenced medical marijuana grow operation in the Sicamous area.

Just before 4:00 a.m. today, officers responded to the facility after a representative for the company received a notification of an alarm at the site.

Once on scene, O’Donaghey says, the representative encountered suspects with firearms. Police say the suspect allegedly fired a shot toward the property representative during a confrontation.

The victim was uninjured, and the suspects fled in a vehicle — which was later found abandoned in the Enderby area.

The massive police search resulted in the arrest of one man, and police say the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sicamous RCMP at (250) 836-2878.
