VICTORIA — The increase in new positive COVID-19 cases in the province has slowed down.

In her daily news conference Tuesday (Apr. 7), provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry did announce four new deaths related to the virus — all of whom resided in the Lower Mainland. This brings the provincial death toll to 43.

For the third day in a row, there have been no new COVID-19 patients diagnosed in the Interior Health region.

Henry said that across the province there have been 25 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the provincial total to 1,291.

Of the 1,291 cases, 805 people have now fully recovered, or 62 per cent.

Henry also praised the several faith leaders who joined in on a conference call this morning (Apr. 7) to discuss observing upcoming faith-based holidays virtually instead of in person.

Henry also urged people to avoid all non-essential travel within the province.

Health Minister Adrian Dix asked people to stay away from any communities where they don’t reside.
