Horgan and Ralston then announced a three-month credit for BC Hydro customers. It includes those who have lost their employment, including workers who are quarantined or sick with COVID-19, and people whose children require care due to school closures and cannot make an income. The credit does not have to be paid back by these customers.

Minister Ralston reminded British Columbians that they might be eligible for the BC Hydro customer crisis fund as well, if they need extra financial support.

A three month payment holiday will be given to small businesses starting today, April 1 running until June.

Larger businesses will be offered a 50 percent deferral of bill payments for three months, with a prescribed repayment plan, repayment won’t be due until September of 2020.

And lastly, the Minister of Energy announced a one per cent decrease in electricity rates for all BC Hydro customers saying, “this is the first rate decrease in decades.”

The measures announced today are all in hopes to help relieve stress on British Columbians.
