VICTORIA — Two more people have died in B.C. due to COVID-19, but nearly half of all patients have recovered.

That was the latest information provided by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry in a news conference Monday (March 30).

Henry said over the past 48 hours, there were 86 new cases of COVID-19, with just 16 reported on March 29.

This brings the total number of cases in B.C. to 970, which includes 94 cases in the Interior Health region.

In total, 19 people have died in the province from COVID-19. The two new deaths occurred in the Vancouver Coastal Health region.

Henry said 48 per cent of cases have fully recovered, including more than 70 patients who were in hospital or ICU over the past few weeks.

“We really are in a critical juncture right now in B.C.,” Henry said. “The next two weeks, we’re in our second incubation period, this is a critical time for us.”

Henry added it’s not known yet if cases will trickle in over the coming weeks or if there will be large increases.

“We are not through the storm yet. We have not yet reached our peak.”

Health Minister Adrian Dix said starting April 1, pay parking will be suspended at hospitals across the province.
