Kelson Group eases financial strain on tenants during COVID-19 pandemic

KAMLOOPS — It is a difficult time for many people when it comes to having to pay monthly bills or rents.

Kamloops’s largest rental property management company, the Kelson Group, is helping its renters out.

Kelson Group residents who pay their rent on April 1 will be receiving a five per cent discount on their rent for the month.

Afterwards, Vice President of Operations Jason Fawcett says the Kelson Group will help residents who are still unable to afford their full rent due to wage losses.

“We have an application program right now where we’re asking them to give as much information as they can about where they are and then we’re going to work out some sort of payment plans,” Fawcett said. “They don’t know when EI payments (will come), and the B.C. government’s got a rent assistance program that is coming, and it’s all well-intentioned but we don’t know about the dates yet, so we’re going to work on options for them, and talk, and communicate and see what we can do to get through this together.”

(NOTE: A previous version of this story stated that all residents would receive the five per cent discount. It has been corrected to clarify that tenants who pay their rent on April 1 will receive the discount.)
