KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops is issuing layoff notices in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis.

Kamloops Mayor Ken Christian says 100 layoff notices have been distributed to part-time staff as the City evaluates its staffing levels and seeks to shrink its footprint in response to the global pandemic.

Christian says many of the part-time staff affected would have been laid off at this time of year anyway.

In a news conference on the steps of City Hall Friday, Christian said it is evaluating the role of its bylaw team, as the province has given local bylaw teams license to enforce social distancing practices.
