WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — Williams Lake is ensuring its first responders are more readily available where they’re needed during the coronavirus pandemic by restricting open burning.

A city release on Monday (Mar. 23) is encouraging residents to stop open burning where possible.

If absolutely necessary, residents can only have:

• Outdoor cooking fires provided the fire is contained in a device or fixture designed specifically for cooking and the fire only burns briquettes.

• Outdoor fire pits approved by the Fire Chief for use in licensed campgrounds or tourist parks.

• Fires deemed necessary for municipal burning.

• Fires lit for Fire Department training exercises.
