KAMLOOPS — RCMP have arrested a suspect in yesterday’s Sahali liquor store robbery — and charged him with attempted murder.

Police say 33-year-old William Paul Bolton was arrested at around 11:00 a.m. Friday on Arrowstone Drive after a resident reported a suspicious man in a backyard.

During the noon hour Thursday (March 19), a man walked into the U District Liquor Store and slashed an employee with a bladed weapon before fleeing on foot.

The employee was seriously injured.

After a surveillance photo was released, RCMP received several reports of sightings throughout the afternoon and evening.

Bolton is now in custody, charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and robbery.

In a news release, Staff Sgt. Simon Pillay says, “[t]his robbery involved a disturbing level of unprovoked and unnecessary violence. From the moment RCMP were engaged, it was a priority case to resolve.”

Pillay says RCMP are releasing more photos of Bolton in order to advance their investigation. If you have seen him around Kamloops in the past 24 hours, you are asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000.
