KAMLOOPS — Over the last few days I’ve been asked many times “what are you going to report on now that most sports are shutting down during the COVID crisis?”

Well, the answer to that is that there have been a few times over the years when it’s been necessary to make something out of nothing.

Right now is one of those times, and it’s a day at a time.

So from time-to-time, maybe even day-to-day, we’re going to go back to the past and delve into the sports archive vault — to replay stories of local games, tournaments, championships, athlete profiles and features.

During a 12 season period from 1979 to 1990 the Kam High Red Devils were a provincial high school football powerhouse, playing in seven provincial championship games.

From 1981 to 1983 the Red Devils played in three consecutive B.C. finals.

After a 7-0 win over Notre Dame in 1981 for the schools first B.C. title, the Red Devils lost 13-0 to Notre Dame in the final a year later.

In 1983 the Red Devils took out Notre Dame earlier in the playoffs to get to a third straight B.C. final.

We delve into the sports archive vault and take a look back 37 years to the championship game between Kam High and the Richmond Colts in 1983.

It was also the swan song for legendary coach and future Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame’er Rich Nykorak as head coach of the Red Devils
