Canada – U.S. border to close

OTTAWA – Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and U.S. President Donald Trump say the border between the two countries will be closed. All non-essential travel will be stopped between Canada and the United States as the two countries continue to fight the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
The Prime Minister wouldn’t say when the closure would go into effect but did say it would be as “quickly as possible”.
Exemptions will include truck drivers who are moving goods between the two countries. Others who work and live on opposite sides of the border will also be exempt.
Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland says nearly 200,000 people cross the Canada-U.S. border every day, and many of them are vitally important to the health and economic welfare of both countries.
