VANCOUVER — Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix have provided an update on the novel coronavirus in the province.

B.C. announced 45 new cases of COVID-19 bringing the provincial total to 231.

Of the new cases, there are two in the Interior Health region, bringing the total to nine cases.

Right now 13 people are hospitalized with COVID-19 in the province with seven in intensive care. Five patients have recovered.

No new deaths were reported today.

“This virus is spreading in our community,” Henry said, noting the importance of protecting the most vulnerable. “These are temporary but they are extremely important right now.”

She added that it’s crucial for people to act now on implementing social distancing, hand hygiene and staying home when sick to prevent further spread of the virus.

“We’re dealing today with things that happened 10 days, 14 days ago,” Henry said, adding that our actions today will determine what the next weeks and months will look like.
