Wood debris piles to be burned near Merritt

MERRITT — Don’t be alarmed by the sight of smoke rising from a forested area near Nicola Lake northeast of Merritt over the next few weeks. The BC Wildfire Service is burning off about 150 piles of wood debris.
The burns are planned around the two-kilometre mark of North Nicola Lake Road.
Suitable weather conditions will determine when the burns will occur.
The burns are part of a rehabilitation program for the area.
