KAMLOOPS — The latest snowpack survey from the province shows we have maintained an above-normal snow supply across most of B.C.

As of March 1, snowpack is 11 per cent above normal province-wide.

The North and South Thompson basins recorded two of the highest totals in B.C. this month, with the North Thompson at 123 per cent of normal and the South Thompson at 127 per cent.

The highest readings can be found in the Skagit and Central Coast regions, at 139 per cent and 136 per cent, respectively.

The province’s ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development says typically, 80 per cent of the season’s snow has built up by March 1.

The ministry notes high snowpacks can contribute to spring flooding, but there are several other factors, including spring precipitation and temperatures, that play a part.
