CHASE, B.C. — A man and a woman were arrested near Chase this weekend after allegedly crashing into a semi-truck head-on.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet says in a news release that the crash came after a series of alleged dangerous driving incidents.

Just after 3:00 a.m. on March 1, a police officer tried to stop a suspected impaired driver on Highway 1 near Chase.

When the driver failed to stop, the officer pulled over and called in nearby units to help locate it.

A second officer found the vehicle near Shuswap Avenue and Highway 1, where he saw the driver allegedly swerving all over the roadway, the shoulder and into the oncoming lane at speeds exceeding 140 km/h.

The officer turned his lights and sirens on to try and stop the vehicle.

The suspect vehicle disappeared around a 90-degree bend in the roadway, and Chase RCMP then discovered the vehicle had crashed head-on with an oncoming semi-truck. When police arrived the driver and passenger were attempting to flee.

A 30-year-old Abbotsford woman and a 33-year-old Prince George man were arrested. No charges have been laid yet.

“We are thankful that the semi-truck driver, our officers or any other members of the public were not injured as a result of this driver’s blatant disregard to anyone’s safety,” Shoihet says.
