CLINTON, B.C. — The province’s police watchdog is investigating after a suspect was injured during an arrest near Clinton on Sunday.

In a news release, RCMP say it has notified the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of the incident.

Just before 5:00 p.m. Feb. 23, Clinton RCMP officers responded to a store in 70 Mile House for a report of three individuals, associated to a pick-up truck, who were acting suspiciously and were possibly impaired.

The investigating officer received more information that the people and the pick-up were located outside of a seasonal property in Watch Lake.

More officers, including a police service dog, were called to assist. A woman and man were located and arrested outside of a nearby home. The man was injured by the police dog and was treated in hospital.

A second woman was arrested allegedly attempting to leave the area.

“Frontline Clinton RCMP officers are continuing to investigate criminal allegations, including failing to stop for police, while IIO BC is investigating to determine whether police actions or inactions are linked to the man’s injuries,” BC RCMP Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet says in the release. “As the matter is now under investigation by the IIO BC, no further information will be released by police.”
