City hopes to minimize impact to businesses, residents during Tranquille Road construction

KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops is expecting ground to break this spring on the Tranquille Road Sanitary Main upgrade project.

In a news release, the City says it replaced the sanitary gravity main from the North Primary Sewer Lift Station near the Kamloops Airport, to Crestline Street and Tranquille Road.

In the second phase of the project — expected to start in mid-March — a gravity main will be constructed in Brock along Tranquille Road from Southill Street to 12th Street to replace the existing main.

The project is expected to be complete in November 2020.

Along with the main replacement, proposed upgrades along the corridor include pedestrian paths, landscaping, and intersection and boulevard improvements.

“While every attempt will be made to minimize the impact on business owners, residents, motorists, transit users, and pedestrians during construction, delays and congestion are inevitable and should be expected,” the City says. “Commuters are encouraged to consider using alternate routes or other modes of transportation, such as carpooling, transit, cycling, or walking.”

The City is hosting a drop-in information session on March 5 at 5:30 p.m. at the McArthur Island Sports Centre Lounge to view the project design.

Staff from the City, the designing consultants, and the leading contracting contender will provide information and answer questions.

“The City will implement an extensive communications plan that utilizes traffic webcams, electronic roadside message boards, radio and print ads, social media, the City’s website, and other means to inform the public of anticipated delays, lane closures, and other traffic disruptions.”
