WolfPack women’s volleyball headed to Canada West semi-finals

EDMONTON — History was made last night (Feb. 21) for the TRU WolfPack women’s volleyball team.

The women came out on top in their first round Canada West playoff series for the first time in program history, and advance to the semi-finals.

Thursday evening, and then Friday night, the WolfPack swept the MacEwan University Griffins two games in a row to take the best-of-three quarterfinal playoff series.

TRU leaders included Kendra Finch with 12 kills, and 18 digs, alongside Olga Savenchuk with 11 kills, two service aces, four assists, and 17 digs. Kseniya Kocyigit also brought in 10 kills and seven blocks, while Anastasiia Muzyka contribued 34 assists in the win.

The WolfPack will be playing the Trinity Western Spartans when the best of three series gets started next week in Langley.

Game one Thursday, Feb. 27 6 pm.

Game two Friday, Feb. 28 7 pm.

Game three Saturday, Feb. 29 6 pm (if needed).

The winner will of this series will advance to the finals, and earn a berth as either the first or second seed at the USPORTS Nationals in Calgary in March. While the loser goes to a one-game bronze medal game against the loser of the other semi-final.

The winner of that match will then get the third seed to U SPORTS Nationals.
